Del Toro X Johnny Robles Unveiling
Miami, FL – June 29, 2013 – Keeping with the true connection of art and fashion, Del Toro launched its fourth collaboration in the “Del Toro Artists Series” with local artist, Johnny Robles. Along with the release of the new “Macaw Camo” print, Robles embellished the freshly revamped Del Toro Boutique in Wynwood with a unique, full wall mural of its own. Del Toro’s involvement with artists like Johnny and previous collaborator Typoe, is meant to convey the cultural collective of Miami. Guests gathered at the boutique to see the redesign and the vibrant, bright camo shoe creations that are reflective of both Robles and Del Toro’s hometown. The Macaw Camo Slipper with natural sole and Macaw Camo Chukka with white sole will be available online and at the Del Toro Boutique for both men and women. See what brought about the collaboration and inspiration between Robles and Del Toro owner, Matt Chevallard, below.

Matt Chevallard: Redesigning the boutique was making it more myself. I wanted to spruce it up a little bit and take it to the next level. Having Johnny do a mural + installing Vintage cobalt Herman Miller couching + and draping vintage nautical and international flags from ceiling. Ultimately the store is more me and fits more of my vision that I want to offer. It is actually our 4th series and we will continue to offer limited edition projects with local and international artists we share similar visions and aesthetics with.

Johnny Robles: Matt has always showed much interest in art, its history and has been an avid supporter of my work. I thought it would be an exciting challenge to watch this collaboration unfold. Although I have always worked independently, I know that some things work better when two minds collide.
Johnny Robles: Living in Miami has definitely influenced the use of color in my work as much as I am influenced by psychedelia and color combinations found in nature. Flowers, plants, or a Scarlet Macaw, or even a rainbow after a downpour. Those are a few things where my idea derived from.
Johnny Robles: My work is always changing as everything else does on earth. I will always use color in my work but the treatment may unfold into something new. I think the shoes speak very positively and relate to most people, as each design on every pair was made differently and individual as all people should be but all of the same colors.
Johnny Robles: This exchange of energy and creativity with Del Toro allowed for the creation of something wonderful and incredibly positive.
Matt Chevallard: It is part of our intent to form a cultural collective lifestyle. Arts, fashion forming that bond that allows us to cater our unique offerings and lifestyle to our community.
Matt Chevallard: We always have projects in store that allow us to offer unique product and remain relevant and interesting. We continue to develop our luxury lifestyle and the response has been very unbelievably encouraging.
