Nik Richie

Miami Beach, FL – June 19, 2013 – Nik Richie, king of gossip blog The Dirty, celebrated the launch of his first book, “Sex, Lies and The Dirty”, at LIV on Wednesday for their Dirty Hairy party, naturally. Richie, who has Miami as one of his eight featured cities in the US and Canada on his site, always receives a warm welcome when he’s in town. His fans came out to celebrate the launch and create some scandalous memories as Richie himself signed copies of his book in the club. World Red Eye, having been a long time friend and follower of Richie and his Dirty army, was excited to capture all the action and catch up with him.

World Red Eye: How has The Dirty evolved since you first started the blog in Arizona?

Nik Richie: The Dirty is a monster. When I started the website in Scottsdale, it was the ‘kill time’ website in Arizona. Now the website is worldwide and part of people’s daily routine. People go to my website almost four times a day on average, and now I have fans in countries I can’t even pronounce. I wouldn’t call it evolution, it’s more like religion.

WRE: What’s “Dirty” worthy and what doesn’t make the cut?

NR: Only about 20 percent of the content submitted makes The Dirty. For two reasons mainly. One, my mind likes pictures that show a distorted sexual world with a sense of passion in the text submitted. Two, I’m the only guy who writes as “Nik” which means I can only humanly post about 250 submissions when I’m in the zone. So bottom line: I’m like the Internet lifeguard saving kids from drowning in the pool. If you submit hardcore hate, porn, fat guys, ugly animals, etc, I won’t let it go on the website.

WRE: You had your first kid almost two years ago, a girl. How’s that been for you? She’s not even 2 years old and has more followers on Twitter than most people- 14,697!

NR: I love that I’m a father. This has been two years of growth for myself. My daughter, Press, is amazing. Her twitter (@PressRichie) was more of a security move on my part to make sure she could have her name when she got older. I didn’t think people would actually follow her. I actually think its unfortunate. Social media has taken away our innocence. We live for ‘likes’ now and have extremely shortened our attention span. We don’t take the time to look around and absorb; we are now brainwashed to look for moments- one picture that defines us so that we can share it with people we don’t know. I can only hope as a father I can teach Press the world is made of many patient colors and not just filters.

WRE: What story have you been most proud of publishing?

NR: To be honest, I like publishing stories of myself. I feel like when I f*** up, the world should know. I’m no different from the next person. We all make mistakes, but how we act in the moment defines us. I was busted for a DUI back in 2008. I decided to post my mugshot and out myself to the world. It was a crash and burn moment for The Dirty, but somehow it humanized me. It was a swallow-my-balls moment.

WRE: Tell us about your book. How is it like or unlike your site? What can readers expect?

NR: The book was me clearing myself of sin, mentally. I put it all out there. The Dirty has not been an easy existence over the past six years. The book is more of a behind-the-scenes look of its glory. I named real people with real events that transpired in The Dirty’s creation, including the girls I have slept with. I think everyone should read my book. To achieve anything in life, you must struggle, and I think ‘Sex, Lies And The Dirty’ is an amazing story of struggle through real eyes and truth. This book might be extremely offensive to some, but motivational to others. Read it and let me know.

WRE: Any sneak peeks you can give us?

NR: In the book ‘Sex, Lies And The Dirty,’ I write about my first time in Miami. My first night I find myself in a private back room bathroom at Mansion with Lindsay Lohan. She exposes herself to me and offers me blow… It gets better. Read the book.

WRE: There are a lot of people who say your site could ruin someone’s career or reputation, what do you say to them?

NR: I can’t be blamed for other people’s mistakes.

WRE: Give us your take on Miami- the good and the dirty.

NR: Miami is my second home- the most beautiful people in the world doing all the wrong things because they can. This city loves me and embraces The Dirty. I have made amazing friends and even more amazing enemies. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
