Miami, FL – May 2, 2013 – Every spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a national high school visual art competition. This year, the 2013 Congressional Art Competition showcased the artistic talents of the students in the 24th Congressional District at the Adrienne Arsht Center. So naturally, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson came out to support and crown the winners. How it works, is that students submit their entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC, where the winning works are displayed for a year at the U.S. Capitol. On Thursday, Florida’s winners were crowned, with Jamie Fleurimond, Abigail Ayers, Juan Rodriguez winning first to third place respectively. There was also an honorable mention that went to Christine Curiac.
