Talib Kweli

Miami Beach, FL – October 19, 2012 – On Friday, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County presented Idle Warship: Talib Kweli and Res. In addition to launching the Center’s inaugural 2012-13 Live At Knight series, Talib Kweli’s buzzworthy duo act Idle Warship with singer/songwriter Res, made its anticipated Florida premiere at the Center’s Knight Concert Hall. In 2009, the famed rapper joined longtime collaborator Res, a Billboard Dance chart-topping artist and model, to form this new music venture. The hip-hop/electro duo released their first official album, Habits of the Heart, in November 2011.

A nine-piece chamber orchestra headed by local conductor and composer, Sam Hyken, accompanied Idle Warship throughout the evening. Hyken, who has more than 10 years of experience in the orchestral world, having played and taught at New World Symphony as well as the Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO), led his classical players to create an unconventional and memorable way of listening to hip-hop. This performance marked the first time that Talib Kweli works with an orchestral section.

Previously announced Live At Knight Series performances include: Macy Gray (November 8, 2012); Diego El Cigala (November 10, 2012); Drumline Live! (November 11, 2012); Lenine (January 18, 2013); Matisyahu (January 19, 2013); Calypso Rose (February 9, 2013); Kodo (March 9, 2013); and Esperanza Spalding (April 19, 2013).
