Miami, FL – June 12, 2013 – The time has come to say goodbye to one of South Florida’s most prominent news anchors: Shannon Hori. After six years of covering breaking news at CBS4 and contributing to various nonprofits around the city, the Emmy Award-winning anchor is packing her bags, husband, twin sons, and black lab to head to Louisville, Kentucky. She’ll be starting in July as the main anchor for the NBC affiliate there, WAVE 3 News under her married name- Shannon Cogan. Since her last day at the CBS4 studios is tomorrow, June 13, and she leaves town on Friday the 14th, we’re sending her off with a farewell post of some of her favorite moments here in Miami. See what Hori had to say when reflecting upon the past few years and the special occasions captured by World Red Eye.
“I have been here for the last six years and will miss a lot about South Florida: the gorgeous beaches, our great friends, the bizarre news stories, and the Cuban coffee. Since our four and a half year-old twins were born here, South Florida will always hold a very special place in our hearts. I’ve covered Heat wins and the parade, the Super Bowl, hurricanes, pots and pans in Little Hialeah, crazy political stories, won an Emmy for anchoring, and met so many really amazing people… My husband, Kendall, comes from a family with nine kids, so we are looking forward to our boys growing up around their many cousins. We are trading in hurricane seasons for snow storms, but you can be sure to see me with my toes in the Florida sand when it gets really cold. Save me a beach chair. Until then…”
“Having fun with Seth at the Voices for Children gala last year… This was a crazy picture!”
“How often does someone have a party in Neiman Marcus, and the store is actually shut down for it?? And the cake was in the shape of a shopping bag!”
“It was thrilling to see so many women have fun at the event that I helped bring to South Florida. The first year, I was the honorary chair with co-chairs Criselda Breene and Carola Pimental, and a terrific committee. It’s especially meaningful to me because I am the mom of twin boys who have both made a few trips to Miami Children’s Hospital.”

“This was one of the most spectacular fundraisers. And what an announcement that night from Christine Lynn- that she was donating 25 million dollars!! It’s not too often that you get a live ‘news flash’ like that.”

“This year we sold out several weeks before the event. And we raised a whopping 450K for Miami Children’s Hospital. Along with Criselda, Carola, an incredible committee and presenting sponsor Elizabeth Spill, the Miami event raised more than the 150 other Wine, Women, & Shoes events produced throughout the country over the past eight years.”

“Ronald Smith had people in tears when he spoke about how his Guardian Ad Litem changed his life. This year, actor Christian Slater and his fiancé Brittany Lopez were the honorary chairs of the event. It’s always fun seeing Christian around town because growing up, I loved every single movie he was in. I think he’s a great actor and one of the nicest, most down to earth guys.”

“Not a bad day when you can spend time with some of your best girlfriends at the beautiful Delano Hotel – the first South Florida hotel I stepped foot in back in 1994. I remember thinking ‘Wow, this place is really cool.’ And it still is.”

“I will miss one of my favorite South Florida designers, Rene Ruiz, who is opening a new factory in Hialeah and hiring 75 people. He has a great eye for fabric and how to use it, and he’s so genuinely nice. He promises to send me a dress for next year’s Kentucky Derby, since I’ll be working in Louisville, Kentucky. Maybe he’ll start designing hats too?”

“So many great moments with friends, including this lunch at the new Cipriani. It was ‘girls only’ until our friend AJ popped over for a picture.”
